FLOW’s openers have become a cornerstone in the anime music scene. With iconic songs in major works like Naruto, Code Geass, and Eureka Seven, the five-member Japanese rock band has achieved worldwide recognition.
FLOW consists of vocalists KOHSHI and KEIGO, guitarist TAKE, bassist GOT’S, and drummer IWASAKI. Formed in 2003, the band has grown its international fanbase thanks to their hit anime collaborations. Over the past two decades, they’ve performed in 19 countries around the world.

LOVE & JUSTICE – From Kinnikuman Perfect Origin Arc
“LOVE & JUSTICE” is the opening theme for Kinnikuman Perfect Origin Arc, the 2024 anime adaptation of the hit Kinnikuman manga series.
Digitally released on July 22, 2024, this anime opening is a special collaboration between FLOW and renowned composer Yasuharu Takanashi—known for his musical contributions to NARUTO Shippuden, Fairy Tail, and other major anime works.
In their official comment, FLOW expressed their “heart is full of surprise and joy” at the opportunity to work on a project they have cherished since childhood, sharing how they “laughed, cried, and got absorbed” in its world.
Takanashi shared his excitement about collaborating with FLOW, whom he had previously worked with at an anime event in America. In his official comment, he described this opportunity as “a fateful connection.”
Raging Fire – From Drowning Sorrows in Raging Fire
“Raging Fire” (烈火) is the opening theme for the Japanese dubbed version of the anime Drowning Sorrows in Raging Fire. Released on January 9, 2024, this FLOW anime opening accompanies the adaptation of the popular web novel 烈火浇愁 (Lie Huo Jiao Chou) by Priest.
In their official comment, FLOW expressed their honor to contribute to the project, acknowledging the anticipation of fans who had long awaited the anime adaptation. TAKE reflected, “I think we were able to express the worldview of the work through a melancholic melody.”
Written specifically for this anime series, “Raging Fire” incorporates the traditional Chinese instrument, the erhu, to honor the cultural roots of the original work.
GET BACK – From A Returner’s Magic Should Be Special
“GET BACK” is the opening theme for the anime A Returner’s Magic Should Be Special. This FLOW anime opening was released on November 22, 2023.
In their official comment video on YouTube, FLOW stated, “This song was created thanks to our encounter with the new work ‘A Returner’s Magic Should Be Special.’ It’s a song with a sense of speed, and we’re also looking forward to performing it live with everyone.”
The lyrics of “GET BACK” carry a strong message of resilience and fighting back, in times of great despair. The band hopes that fans will enjoy and love both the song and anime.

Daydream Believer – From Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2
“Daydream Believer” is the second opening theme of the 15th-anniversary rebroadcast of Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2.
Released on November 16, 2022, this FLOW anime opening is a collaborative effort with Okinawa-based rock band, ORANGE RANGE.
In an interview, RYO from ORANGE RANGE expressed his admiration for FLOW, describing them as “reliable seniors” and “comrades who have been striving in their own paths for a long time.” HIROKI from ORANGE RANGE described FLOW as “long-lost brothers.”
KEIGO from FLOW reciprocated the sentiment, noting the long history of both bands. He shares, “After 20 years, there are fewer and fewer bands that can continue in the same way, so when ORANGE RANGE, our peers, aggressively continue to perform live at concerts and tours, it’s inspiring to see. Their presence has always been on my mind.”
GOLD – From Boruto: Naruto Next Generations
“GOLD” is the 10th opening theme for Boruto: Naruto Next Generations. Released on April 27, 2022. This FLOW anime opening continues the band’s legacy from Naruto, marking their first venture into Boruto’s world.
In their official comment, FLOW shared how fortunate they feel to contribute to Boruto’s story during their 20th anniversary and the 20th anniversary of Naruto being animated. “We have teamed up with Naruto…and have spent a long time together. We consider him a comrade-in-arms.”
Creating “GOLD” posed unique challenges, given the difficulty of writing from Boruto’s perspective. As TAKE shared in an interview, “Having gone through the experience of creating themes for Naruto, there were words we could impart to Boruto from Naruto’s viewpoint. That became the main theme in writing ‘GOLD.'”
The band explained that “GOLD” combines the words “GO!!!” and “OLD,” a nod to their history with the franchise. Combining their journey with Naruto and hopes for Boruto, FLOW has created a powerful anthem for the next generation.
DICE – From Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2
“DICE” is the second opening for the 15th-anniversary rebroadcast of Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2. This FLOW anime opening was released on December 15, 2021.
In an interview, TAKE discussed the challenge of composing a new song for such a beloved series, especially given the legendary status of their previous Code Geass hit, “COLORS.” He candidly admitted, “I thought it was impossible to surpass ‘COLORS’.”
While “COLORS” represents Lelouch, “DICE” was created to capture the essence of Zero, Lelouch’s alter ego. This choice underscores the character’s duality and complex identity. As TAKE explains, “By focusing the songs in this way, I thought we could express one thing with two songs.”
Shinsekai – From Shadowverse
“Shinsekai” (新世界), which translates to “New World,” is the second opening theme for the anime Shadowverse, based on a digital card game of the same name.
Released on January 13, 2021, this FLOW anime opening marks the band’s first single after transitioning to the record label, SACRA MUSIC. In an interview, TAKE explained that the song was designed to embody the sense of a new beginning, mirroring the start of a new battle for the protagonists.
While acknowledging the dark times of the COVID-19 pandemic, the band aimed to deliver song with a message of positivity and hope. As TAKE adds, “I wanted to release an uplifting song, and I think we were able to express a core aspect of FLOW.”
Howling – From The Seven Deadly Sins: Revival of the Commandments
“Howling” is the first opening theme for The Seven Deadly Sins: Revival of the Commandments, the second season of The Seven Deadly Sins anime series.
Released on January 24, 2018, this high-energy FLOW anime opening is a collaboration with Japanese rock band GRANRODEO. Initially formed in 2014, the joint unit known as FLOW×GRANRODEO was revived after three years for this special occasion.
In their official comment, FLOW shared that the song represents a sound that couldn’t be created by either band alone, hyping up the intense battles and developments in the anime. They added, “Please listen to the roaring voices and sounds of the seven of us.”
Kaze no Uta – From Tales of Zestiria the X
“Kaze no Uta” (風ノ唄) is the first opening theme for the anime Tales of Zestiria the X. Released on August 24, 2016, this FLOW anime opening is based on the popular video game of the same name (Tales of Zestiria).
In an interview, KOHSHI discussed the inspiration behind the lyrics, aiming to connect the world of the Seraphim and humans with the flowing ‘wind.'” This metaphor extends to real life, as he elaborated, “Even though there are conflicts, I hope people can feel that we are living in the same era.”
The band’s intention shines through in their powerful and persuasive lyrics. He explains, “It’s because it’s music, because it’s lyrics, because they’re set to a melody, that I can say such strong things.” Reflecting on his aspirations, he writes with the hope that the band can embody these ideals.

Steppin’ out – From Durarara!!x2
“Steppin’ out” is the third opening theme for Durarara!!x2, or season two of the Durarara!! anime series. This FLOW anime song was released on January 20, 2016.
In an official comment, KEIGO expressed the band’s excitement about collaborating with Durarara!!. He shared how they layered the worldview of the series with their band’s current feelings, connecting with the characters’ conflicts and emotions.
He stated, “We hope that the climax of the story and the song’s sense of speed will merge, creating the best chemical reaction between the work and the music.” Indeed, “Steppin’ out” mirrors the intense emotions in the anime.
“Ai Ai Ai ni Utarete Bye Bye Bye” – From Samurai Flamenco
“Ai Ai Ai ni Utarete Bye Bye Bye” (愛愛愛に撃たれてバイバイバイ) is the second opening theme for the anime Samurai Flamenco. Released on February 26, 2014, this FLOW anime opening perfectly captures the spirit of the anime.
In his official comment, KEIGO described the protagonist Masayoshi as someone who embodies pure and honest feelings, which everyone has but often hides. He shared, “What we confront with our music are those straightforward feelings that are at the root of such emotions.”
With this song, FLOW hopes to encourage listeners to embrace what they believe in, amidst conflict, just as the characters do in the anime.
BRAVELUE – From Eureka Seven: AO
“Bravelue” (ブレイブルー) is the second opening theme for Eureka Seven: AO, the sequel to the original Eureka Seven series. Released on September 5, 2012, this high-energy FLOW anime opening serves as a follow-up—an “answer song”—to their earlier hit, “DAYS,” created seven years earlier.
KOHSHI explained that the lyrics of “Bravelue” are a continuation of the Eureka Seven story. “I wrote the lyrics with the theme of ‘a brave child growing up,’ imagining the sea and sky of Okinawa,” he shared in an interview. (Note: The story is based in Okinawa).
Reflecting on the band’s journey, KEIGO noted, “During those seven years, the anime itself grew, and FLOW also grew. Our connection with the anime and our awareness of it deepened.” He emphasized that creating “Bravelue” allowed FLOW to express its growth in tandem with the evolving series.
Hey!!! – From Beelzebub
“Hey!!!” is the third opening theme for the anime Beelzebub. Released on August 31, 2011, this high-energy FLOW anime opening delivers an important message from the band. The song was created after the Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami on March 11, 2011.
Known for its positive and uplifting lyrics, the song expresses a sense of impatience with the current state of the world, as well as a determination to push through difficult times. FLOW felt a great need to communicate this powerful message which they have embedded into the song.
“Hey!!!” became a track with strong significance for the band, helping to spread a message of resilience and unity.
Sign – From Naruto Shippuden
“Sign” is the sixth opener for Naruto Shippuden.
Released on January 13, 2010, this FLOW anime opening has become another long-time, Naruto fan favorite.
KEIGO expressed his happiness about this big milestone, particularly noting the song’s international reach. “When we performed ‘Sign’ abroad, everyone sang along to the English lyrics at the beginning,” he shared in an interview.
KEIGO further emphasized the emotional connection between “Sign” and the key episodes in Naruto Shippuden, particularly highlighting the theme of farewell and the determination to move forward. He adds, “Even now, both in Japan and overseas, there are people who listen while crying in front of us, and I think they are replaying scenes from the anime in their minds while listening live.”
In 2023, 13 years after its release, “Sign” surpassed 100 million streams across subscription services. Indeed, “Sign” remains a powerful, iconic track in Naruto Shippuden’s discography.

SUMMER FREAK – From Naruto: Shonen Hen
“SUMMER FREAK” serves as the third opening theme for Naruto: Shonen Hen, the remastered version of part one of the Naruto series. The FLOW anime opening was released on July 22, 2009. Check out FLOW’s music video above.
The anime opening video features scenes of Naruto and his friends wearing swimsuits and enjoying summer activities like watermelon splitting. TAKE notes that this adds “a kind of heartwarming ‘side story’ feel, unique to this song.”
KEIGO elaborates, “The opening video and the scenes showed aspects that you wouldn’t see in the main story, and I was happy that we could be a part of that.”
WORLD END – From Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2
“WORLD END” is the second opening theme song for Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2, or the second season of the Code Geass anime series. This FLOW anime opening was released on August 13, 2008.
Despite the intense storyline, WORLD END was intended to be a song full of hope and optimism. TAKE shares, “At the time we created ‘WORLD END,’ director Goro Taniguchi asked for a brighter song” (hence the song lyrics, “Everything is bright”).
The song was also used as the opening theme for the Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion III – Glorification, the final movie in a compilation films trilogy, inspired by the original animated series.
WORD OF THE VOICE – From Persona: Trinity Soul
“WORD OF THE VOICE” is the second opening theme for Persona: Trinity Soul. Released on June 4, 2008, this FLOW anime opening is part of the Persona anime series, which expands upon the world introduced in the Persona 3 game series.
KOHSHI provided insights into the song’s theme of “voice.” He explained, “When we perform live, it’s as though the audience’s voices reach us in the live houses, and we can feel the emotions or words even before they’re spoken.” He highlighted the emotional depth of the song, which allowed them to create a sound that FLOW had never explored before.
Beginning with its interesting (piano-backed) intro, this rock song adds another unique sound to FLOW’s collection.
COLORS – From Code Geass
“COLORS” is the first opening theme for the anime Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion, also known as Code Geass. Released on November 8, 2006, this FLOW anime opening significantly boosted the band’s popularity.
In an interview, FLOW stated, “A big part of why more people got to know our band is because we collaborated with Code Geass…and there are still many people who say they discovered us through that song.”
The band further shared that thanks to this collaboration, they were able to perform overseas and interact with fans at events where everyone passionately sings along to “COLORS.” They noted the incredible popularity of Code Geass and expressed their happiness in being part of its journey.

Re:member – From Naruto
“Re:member” is the eighth opening theme for the original Naruto anime series. Released on May 31, 2006, this FLOW anime opening marked the band’s second collaboration with the Naruto franchise.
The song held particular significance for the band as the first song released since KEIGO’s hiatus. “With KEIGO’s injury, the band stopped activities for half a year and experienced its first setback.” TAKE shared in an interview that “Re:member” symbolized their determination to overcome challenges, adding “We wrote it as the first step of our comeback.”

DAYS – From Eureka Seven
“DAYS” is the first opening theme for the anime Eureka Seven. Released on June 1, 2005, this FLOW anime opening marked a new direction for the band, incorporating dance music elements into their rock roots.
TAKE shared insights into the creation process for “DAYS,” emphasizing the theme of a “song you can cry to while dancing.” Recalling the shocking moment when producer Seiji Kameda added congas and strings to the song, he shared in an interview, “I remember feeling extremely excited that we had surpassed our previous musical boundaries.”
Initially, “DAYS” was created without the intention of being released as a single. However, this experimentation resonated with the Eureka Seven team, who instantly chose the song as soon as they heard it.
GO!!! – From Naruto
“GO!!!” is the fourth opening theme for the original Naruto anime series. Released on April 28, 2004, this iconic FLOW anime opening was the band’s debut in the anime music world and has remained one of the most popular songs in their discography.
Reflecting on the impact of “GO!!!” as their first anime opening, TAKE discussed the song’s significance over two decades. In an interview, he shares “‘GO!!!’ was our first anime theme song, leading to us creating over 30 anime-related tracks. Everything started with Naruto. Without Naruto, FLOW wouldn’t be who we are today.”

Special 20th Anniversary Version
To celebrate FLOW’s long-standing connection with the anime series, FLOW released a 20th-anniversary version of “GO!!!” for the opening of four new Naruto episodes.
In a media comment on this special collaboration, KEIGO spoke about the band’s collaboration with the Naruto series at key points in the band’s career. He adds, “Naruto is like a comrade to us. This encounter has allowed us to perform live for Naruto fans, not only across Japan but around the world.”
Note: While these episodes were initially scheduled for September 2023, they have since been delayed.
