Ayase shares, ”I wrote ‘Watch me!’ while focusing on the pure, romantic feelings that WITCH WATCH’s protagonist, Nico Wakatsuki, holds for her childhood friend, Morihito Otogi.”

He adds, “The Nico-chan who falls in love with Morihito is also a character I love,” believing the song captures Nico’s cuteness.

Idol – From Oshi no Ko

In the spring of 2023, YOASOBI unveiled “Idol” (アイドル), as the opening theme for the Oshi no Ko anime series. Digitally released on April 12 of that year, the hit song is based on the spin-off short novel “45510,” penned by the renowned manga writer of the series, Aka Akasaka.

“Idol” has a unique origin story. Ayase had conceived a demo of the song many years before its official release; he had originally planned to release it as a Vocaloid solo project. However, once the duo received the offer, he updated the track to its current version.

This YOASOBI anime song incorporates elements of pop, hip-hop, and choir-like vocals. Its lyrics are intricately connected with protagonist Ai Hoshino, capturing the complex dichotomy of great fame and darkness in the idol (and greater entertainment) industry.
