Sleep Walking Orchestra – From Delicious in Dungeon

“Sleep Walking Orchestra” is the opening theme for Delicious in Dungeon. This BUMP OF CHICKEN anime opening was digitally released on December 11, 2023, 

In their official comment, the members revealed that they’ve been fans since the manga’s very first serialization. They imagined the various meals cooked by Senshi and the others, from slightly scary to mouth-wateringly delicious, and can’t wait to see “how the various dishes of Senshi and the others will be portrayed in the anime.”

Pouring all their emotions into the song, the band shared how excited they were to see this “one-of-a-kind, unique world” brought to life.

SOUVENIR – From SPY×FAMILY

“SOUVENIR” opens the second cour of SPY×FAMILY season one. This BUMP OF CHICKEN anime opening was released digitally on September 29, 2022.

Following the anime weekly, the band shared how honored they were to receive the offer in their official comment. The original manga left a deep impression; they described laughing and crying as they read, and found themselves especially moved by the dynamic of the Forger family. They noted how the members’ attempts to maintain their fake family often tugged at their heartstrings. “It’s a family,” they said, “that you want to watch forever.”

The band wrote “SOUVENIR” inspired by their emotions for the listeners they meet at live shows, likening it to “a path leading to a cherished place.”

Gekkou – From Karakuri Circus

“Gekkou” (月虹) is the first opening song for Karakuri Circus. Released on July 10, 2019, this BUMP OF CHICKEN anime opening was later featured as the anime’s third ending theme.

In their official comment, the band shared great admiration for manga artist Kazuhiro Fujita’s works, which began in their teens with Ushio and Tora. As longtime fans of Karakuri Circus, they shared how the manga left a profound impact on them; their appreciation for the series is “hard to put into words, but deeply moving.”

The band was both surprised and honored when offered the opportunity to compose the OP. Determined to do justice as fans of the series, they created a track they wished their younger selves could have heard.

Sirius – From Last Hope

Digitally released on September 24, 2018, “Sirius” (シリウス) is the opening theme song for Last Hope (Juushinki Pandora). The band also contributed the ending theme, “Spica”, to the series.

In their media comment, the band expressed how honored they felt to receive the offer from Last Hope‘s animation director, Shoji Kawamori. The term “Heavy Metal Machines” particularly caught their attention, and even just reviewing the setting materials left them moved and eager to take on the opportunity.

Drawn in by the first episode’s stunning animation, the band shared, “We are very curious to see how our music will resonate, and what happens next.”

GO – From GRANBLUE FANTASY The Animation

Released on February 10, 2016,  “GO” by BUMP OF CHICKEN is the opener for GRANBLUE FANTASY The Animation

Interestingly, this track was not intended to be used for an anime series. The band shared the backstory in their official comment, where Producer Koichi Haruta’s heartfelt letter expressing his deep passion for using “GO” as the theme song resonated strongly with the band.

Touched by his enthusiasm, they shared, “his feelings left a great impression on all of the members, and we absolutely wanted to work together, so we decided to provide the song as the theme.”

Granblue Fantasy’s impact also runs deep for the band; all four members admitted to being avid players of the game. They looked forward to seeing how the anime adaptation would bring “the grand and beautiful world of Granblue Fantasy”  to life.

Answer – From March Comes In Like a Lion

“Answer” (アンサー) is the first opener for season 1 of March Comes In Like a Lion (3-gatsu no Lion).  This BUMP OF CHICKEN anime opening was released on December 21, 2016,

“We’re really looking forward to seeing how Chika Umino’s beautiful drawings will be expressed in the anime,” the band shared in their official comment. They were also excited to hear the story’s iconic lines which they had read in the manga.

“Answer” marks BUMP OF CHICKEN’s second collaboration with the beloved manga series. The band’s first collaboration was in 2014 with the song “Fighter,” created to celebrate the release of the manga’s 10th volume. The track is also featured as the ending theme for the anime adaptation.

Hello, world! – From Blood Blockade Battlefront

“Hello, world!” is the opening theme song for the 2015 anime Blood Blockade Battlefront and was released on April 22, 2015. 

As fans of the original manga, the band was thrilled to contribute to the adaptation’s soundtrack. In their official comment, they spoke to their anticipation of seeing “an overflowing sense of dynamic action, beginning with the Libra members’ special moves” in the anime.

Manga artist Yasuhiro Nightow commented on the melody of “Hello, world!” builds with relentless acceleration, followed by an explosive release. He describes this BUMP OF CHICKEN anime opening as “a satisfying punch, delivered with perfect form and no hesitation,” that places the listener “right in the middle of Blood Blockade Battlefront.” 

Karma – From Tales of the Abyss

Released on December 14, 2005, “Karma” is the opener for Tales of the Abyss. Originally created for the role-playing game, this BUMP OF CHICKEN anime opening was later used in the 2008 anime series. 

In an interview, vocalist Motoo Fujiwara shared how the band’s confidence in the collaboration came from the game creators’ passionate responses during early discussions. This reassured the band that the project was rooted in genuine mutual creativity. “We knew that if we created what we truly wanted, it wouldn’t go wrong,” he said.

Composed in less than a week, Fujiwara drew on his long-time interest in karma to write the track. Bassist Yoshifumi Naoi described it as fiery with passion and “like ice, with no visible flames.”
