However, its true surge in fame came after performing the song at the 73rd NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen on December 31, 2022, Japan’s annual end-of-year music show. In an interview, Vaundy described this performance as the culmination of “phase 1” of his growing music career.
Following this event, the song experienced a resurgence across various streaming platforms and music charts. By March 2023, just three months after the performance, it had amassed over 600 million streams on the Billboard Japan chart—a first for the artist. Additionally, it claimed the #1 spot on the Oricon Annual Karaoke Ranking for 2023.
At Kohaku, Vaundy also shared the stage with soloists milet, Aimer, and Ikuta Rira (from the duo YOASOBI), for the song “Omokage” (おもかげ). Produced by Vaundy, the song initially gained viral traction after its release on the popular YouTube channel, THE FIRST TAKE. While the song features the iconic all-women trio, Vaundy joined them for the Kohaku performance, generating significant buzz in the new year.
