Your Gaze, Crepuscular – from The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity

“Your Gaze, Crepuscular” (まなざしは光) is the opening song for The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity. This Tatsuya Kitani anime song was released on July 6, 2025.

In his official comment, Kitani speaks to how Rintaro and Kaoruko’s relationship is “like a warm presence, like sunlight breaking through thick clouds.”

“A gaze that, like a child, innocently comes leaping over the wall one’s built against the outside world,” Kitani writes. He tries to convey “how overwhelmingly joyful and precious this presence is.”

Where Our Blue Is (Acoustic ver.)- From Jujutsu Kaisen Hidden Inventory / Premature Death

“Where Our Blue Is (Acoustic ver.)” (青のすみか (Acoustic ver.)) is the theme song for the Jujutsu Kaisen Hidden Inventory / Premature Death theatrical compilation film. Digitally released on May 30, 2025, this acoustic rendition comes from his season 2 anime opener.

In his official comment, Kitani explains that “Where Our Blue Is” uses the one word “blue” to express two conflicting images of youth. Since the music style aligned with this concept, he was pleased that the song evoked many contradictory reactions.

For this acoustic version, Kitani shared that he worked hard to give the song “yet another different expression.” He comments, “Jujutsu Kaisen is a profound and intriguing work that reveals different faces, depending on the viewer.”

Kitani adds, “I’m happy to be able to participate again in this way.”

Chained – From Rurouni Kenshin

“Chained,” also known as “Iranai mono” (いらないもの) is the anime opening for season 2 of Rurouni Kenshin, or the Kyoto Disturbance arc. Released on October 4, 2024, this song is a collaboration between Tatsuya Kitani and natori.

In his official comment, Kitani explores the inner conflict between moral responsibility and the desire to preserve what we hold dear. He questions whether there’s truly anything worth sacrificing for current happiness or the people we care about.

Yet, Kitani also sees the righteousness in the moments we find ourselves driven by a self-centered sense of morality. This “pathetic feeling of being torn between two choices,” he describes, is a beautiful part of being human—and central to this song.

Fatale – From Oshi no Ko

“Fatale” (ファタール) is the opening theme song for Oshi no Ko Season 2. Pre-released digitally on July 4, 2024, this anime opening is credited to GEMN, a musical duo consisting of Kitani and J-pop star Kento Nakajima

In a message on GEMN’s official website, Kitani spoke to the concept of one’s fatal deficiencies—such as loss, external validation, or dependency. He reflected on his path as a creator and performer to utilize these qualities as “energy for self-actualization.”

“I wrote ‘Fatale’ as a love song to the things that have messed up my life.”

Kitani also reflected on this shared “distortion” that drives Aqua and Ruby, the performers onstage and creators, GEMN themselves, and even Ai Hoshino. This distortion, as he puts it, is “the source of spark” that fuels them.

“Fatale” captures this paradoxical emotion, with Kitani adding, “I wrote ‘Fatale’ as a love song to the things that have messed up my life.”

Preview of Me – From Go! Go! Loser Ranger!

“Preview of Me” (次回予告) is the opening theme song for season one of Go! Go! Loser Ranger!. This Tatsuya Kitani anime song was digitally pre-released on April 7, 2024,

In his official comment, Kitani explores how one’s future can become more “predictable” with age. He wrote this song to affirm “the shameless struggle to go off the rails, little by little” within these circumstances.

Building on these thoughts in a 2024 interview, he referred to this predictability as an irony, adding “But I think the interesting part of life is to somehow stick out from there.”

“Preview of Me” incorporates the voices of children, an artistic choice by Kitani to capture the meta-feel of the original work.

Where Our Blue Is – From Jujutsu Kaisen

“Where Our Blue Is”, or “Ao no Sumika” (青のすみか) is the second anime opening for season two of Jujutsu Kaisen, during the “Kaidama/Tamaori” arc. Pre-released digitally on July 7, 2023, this Tatsuya Kitani anime song brought massive recognition to his name.

In a 2023 interview, Kitani shared that he drew inspiration from his youth when writing this song. Times that felt full of worry and despair growing up, now appear “blue and beautiful” from his perspective as an adult.

With “Where Our Blue Is,” Kitani aims to convey that the challenging times of youth “will eventually become one’s support. Such time is necessary, and it’ll be alright in the end.” He created this song to save his younger self and hopes it serves the same purpose for others.

In his official comment, Kitani explores the colors of sweet memories and bitter regrets, which become “crutches for the heart as we become adults.” He explains, “This song is for those who have walked this path.”
